Frames & Art by Kluttz ~
Featuring hand-cut and computerized-cut design matting.
Matting is a very important element when framing a piece of
artwork. Although the mat samples usually come in a 3" width,
that should not be considered the "standard" size for all
pieces of artwork. In order to create the best look, one should
consider the size and shape of the art, width of the frame, and the
space where the piece will be hung. Just because the artwork
is small, it does not mean that the mat cannot be wide. In fact,
some of the most dynamic pieces have a very small piece of artwork and a
very wide mat. Often the mat will be wider at the bottom than it
is at the top and sides. A good designer will vary the matting so
that the artwork is presented in the best possible visual
position.
Also, ovals and other design mats can greatly enhance the appearance
of a piece of artwork. For example, baby photos look
adorable in oval mats. While the mat is cut into an oval shape on
the inside opening, it can still be cut into a rectangular shape on the
outside of the mat. Therefore, the photo can still be placed into
a rectangular frame, but the oval mat opening will add a softness to the
overall piece. Also, ovals and other design mats can greatly enhance the appearance

There are many different types of corner cuts from which to
choose. If a western print were being matted and framed, the
overall design might be enhanced through the use of strong, angular
design cuts in each corner of the mat. If a wedding photo were
being matted and framed, perhaps cutting wedding rings in the border of
the mat would offer a unique design. The possibilities are limited
only by the lack of imagination of the designer.
Collages are created by cutting multiple openings, with a variety of
shapes and sizes in one mat. An example could be the display of a
child's school photos from kindergarten through high school. We
often feature a favorite photo by placing it in the center and
displaying the remaining photos around it. Some photos might be
displayed in ovals, while others could be displayed in rectangular or
even diamond shape openings. Again, creative matting can make your
display unique to any other that you have seen.
We will be pleased
to help you create that special piece of a lifetime.
